Cancer: Prostate Cancer PSAs
June 19, 2008 1:05 pm Cancer, Health & FitnessWhen you have your annual prostate exam, you doctor will measure prostate cancer PSAs. These are prostate specific antigens and can be very telling when charted on a yearly basis. Prostate cancer PSAs testing along with a digital rectal exam can find prostate cancer long before symptoms show up.
Prostate Cancer PSAs Can Help You Make Informed Decisions
Prostate cancer is a very serious disease and a man is more prone to getting it as he ages. There are other issues that can occur with the prostate that have similar symptoms to prostate cancer, which is why getting tested makes sense. Instead of panicking and wondering, having an annual exam can give you the information you need to make informed health decisions.
If you were at risk for cancer, prostate cancer PSAs would be detected in your blood. This information can help determine if there are tumors and how fast they are growing. Knowing this information can help in determining how much the tumor has grown already and what kind of treatment should be performed.
An unfortunately large number of men will eventually get prostate cancer if they live long enough. Prostate cancer risks increase with age, diet, hereditary factors as well as obesity. Regular exercise and healthy eating habits may help to keep prostate cancer at bay. Men with cancer in the family should start regular testing at age 35. Every man by the age of 40 should have an annual prostate cancer exam.
